Strathtyrum Tournament 2019

(established 1989)

Terms of the Tournament

  1. The Tournament will be held on a scratch and handicap basis in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Ltd. The Model Local Rules in the Rules of Golf are in effect regarding Conforming Driver Heads, Conforming Golf Balls and Groove and Punch Marks.
  2. Entrants must be amateur as defined by the current Rules of Amateur Status.
  3. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry without assigning a reason.
  4. The competitor shall start at the time laid down by the Committee, who reserves the right to fix and / or alter starting times and to alter or amend any of the Conditions.
  5. Two qualifying rounds will be played, 18 holes on the Eden Course and 18 holes on the New Course.
  6. The 32 players with the lowest aggregate scratch scores will qualify to play for the Strathtyrum Trophy by scratch match play – see Tournament schedule below. In the event of a tie, the Eden Course score will count for all countback purposes in the first instance followed by the New Course score. Ties will be resolved on the best last 9 holes (or 6 or 3 or 2 or 1 hole) followed by the best front 9 holes (or 6 or 3 or 2 or 1 hole). In the event of a tie after countback for the last qualifying places, these will be decided by ballot.
  7. The 16 players with the lowest aggregate net scores failing to qualify for the Strathtyrum Trophy will play for the Strathtyrum Salver by handicap match play (full handicap) – see Tournament schedule below. The draw for the Strathtyrum Salver is made following that for the Strathtyrum Trophy. Any ties will be resolved on a net basis as described in 6 above. In the event of a tie after countback for the last qualifying places, these will be decided by ballot.
  8. In the event of play being delayed, any changes to the format of the Tournament will be at the discretion of the Committee.  If it is deemed that 36 holes qualifying cannot be achieved, it may become necessary to reduce this to 18 holes, whereby the leading 16 players from both the Eden and New Courses will qualify (as detailed in no 6) to play for the Strathtyrum Trophy; similarly, the leading 8 players from both courses will qualify (as detailed in no 7) to play for the Strathtyrum Salver.  In the event of a tie for the qualifying places, these will be resolved on the best last 9 holes (or 6 or 3 or 2 or 1 hole) followed by the best front 9 holes (or 6 or 3 or 2 or 1 hole).  In the event of a tie after countback for the last qualifying places, these will be decided by ballot.
  9. Each match in the Strathtyrum Trophy and the Strathtyrum Salver will consist of one round. In the event of a halved match, competitors will continue to play until one competitor gains a hole, thus winning the match.
  10. A medal competition, scratch (The Marshall Family Trophy) and handicap, will be played on the Strathtyrum Course on Thursday for competitors who did not qualify for the Strathtyrum Trophy or the Strathtyrum Salver. Any player scratching from the match play stages of the Strathtyrum Trophy or the Strathtyrum Salver or losing in the 1st round is not eligible to play in this competition.
  11. A handicap stableford competition will be played on the Jubilee Course on Friday for all competitors.
  12. Subject to prior approval from the Committee, the use of buggies will be allowed in the Tournament and may be taken on the New, Eden, Jubilee and Strathtyrum Courses by golfers with a medical certificate. A maximum of two buggies are available for hire on each course. They may be reserved when booking a practice round – date to be confirmed. The hire fee is £30 per round. All buggies are subject to availability and suitable ground conditions.
  13. The Committee’s decision in all disputes is final.
