St Rule Trophy 2020

Terms of the Tournament

  • A competitor must be an amateur as defined by the current Rules of Amateur Status.
  • The Tournament shall be decided by strokes over three rounds of 18 holes each, which shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Ltd and in accordance with the Local Rules approved by the Tournament Committee.
  • 60 competitors shall be eligible to compete. They shall play two rounds over the New Course on Saturday 30 May and one round over the Old Course on Sunday 31 May 2020. NB: All competitors will play 54 holes.
  • In the event of a tie after three rounds, the competitors who tie shall play a hole by hole (sudden death) play-off over holes 1 and 18 to determine the winner. All other ties for prizes will be shared.  
  • Clubs and Balls:  The Model Local Rules in the Rules of Golf are in effect regarding Conforming Driver Heads, Conforming Golf Balls and Groove and Punch Marks.
  • Pace of Play:  The Pace of Play Conditions will be distributed at Registration.   
  • Anti-Doping: Players must not make use of any drug to enhance performance. Should a player show clinical evidence of use of a drug for non-therapeutic purpose, the Committee may require the player to undergo a drug test. Any player infringing this Condition may be disqualified. Players who are on medication and in doubt as to their clinical status should seek advice from the Tournament Office.
  • Transportation: During a round, a player or caddie must not ride on any form of motorised transportation except as authorised or later approved by the Committee.  
  • The Competitor shall start at the time laid down by the Committee.
  • The Committee reserves the right to fix and/or alter starting times and to alter or amend any of the conditions.
  • The Committee’s decision in all disputes is final.


Terms of Entry 

  • The St Rule Trophy shall be open to women amateur golfers who are members of a recognised golf club, who have amateur status in accordance with the current Rules of Amateur Status and who hold a current CONGU exact handicap of 2.4 or under or overseas equivalent at the date of entry.
  • Entries are limited to 60 and should entries exceed this number the successful entrants will be those with the lowest handicap.  The final eligible entries will be determined by their updated CDH as at the closing date.  All overseas players should forward an updated certificate by the closing date.  If the number of entries exceeds the maximum number of 60 places, the entries will be decided firstly, by exact handicap, and secondly, by date and time of entry received.  
  • The St Rule Trophy Organising Committee will confirm two nominations after the closing date.  
  • St Andrews Links will manage the tournament entries, draw and results.  All entries will be submitted using the online entry form on the St Andrews Links website at:
  • Handicap confirmation:  all Competitors from Scotland, England or Wales may submit their CDH no for handicap verification at the time of online entry; all overseas entrants, please email your certificate to within 5 days from date of entry and by the closing date at the latest.  Any change in handicap prior to the closing date should be confirmed to the Committee on NB: It is the player's responsibility to ensure that their exact handicap is up-to-date (for both UK and overseas entrants).
  • The closing date for entries is Monday 27 April 2020.
  • The entry fee is £55.  Please note that full payment of the entry fee is to be made at the time of online entry.  Failure to pay the entry fee at the time of entry may result in your entry not being accepted. 
  • Entry fees will not be refunded unless intimation of withdrawal is received before the closing date or in the case of a player's unsuccessful entry.  The Committee will consider a partial / full refund if a supporting medical letter is received.
  • All entries will be subject to the approval of the Committee, which reserves the right to accept or refuse or, having accepted, subsequently reject any entry without giving reason for its decision.


Trophies and Prize money

  • The St Rule Trophy (presented by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) shall be awarded to the player returning the lowest score for the 54 holes. The winner shall receive a voucher valued at £300.
  • The Everard Trophy (unless tied) shall be awarded to the player returning the second lowest score for the 54 holes together with a voucher valued at £220.
  • Vouchers will be awarded for the remaining places to the value of: 3rd place - £170, 4th place - £130, 5th place - £110, 6th place - £100.
  • The Lawson Trophy (unless tied) shall be awarded to the player under 18 years of age on the 1st January 2020 who returns the lowest score for 54 holes, together with a voucher valued at £120.
  • The trophies will be retained at St Andrews Links.



  • Competitors are requested to register at the Tournament Office on the Bruce Embankment on Friday 29 May 2020 from 9.00am – 5.00pm.
  • If you are unable to register in person on Friday 29 May, please telephone the Tournament Office on 01334 466726 by 2.00 pm to confirm your place.  You must then register in the Links Clubhouse (near the 1st tee of the New Course) at least 30 minutes before your starting time on Saturday 30 May 2020.
  • Courtesy practice rounds will be available on the New Course and the Old Course on Friday 29 May 2020 with a few courtesy afternoon times also available on the New Course on Thursday 28 May 2020.  Further information on booking a practice round online will be confirmed to all successful entrants after the closing date.  Practice times must be reserved no later than Wednesday 27 May 2020.
