August 10 2018

17-year-old Ben Caton, from the New Club, defeated Blairgowrie’s Fraser Matthews to lift the Merchants’ Cup as part of an action packed day of competition on the Old Course. In doing so Ben became the first St Andrews-based winner since Jamie Farmer in 1998.

Joining Ben in the winner’s circle was Aboyne’s Kimberley Beveridge, who defeated Fern Clark, South Staffs.

The 23-year-old Scottish International clinched the Golf Monthly Trophy with a 3&2 win on the world’s most famous Links.

In the handicap competitions, Nairn’s Katrina Tan clinched the Girls’ Open Quaich following her 2&1 victory over Shannon Pook from Auchterarder.

And in the Boys’ Open equivalent Thomas Vass, from Five Lakes Hotel, lifted the Murray Mitchell Trophy with a 3&1 victory over Calum Draper from Dunblane New.

Qualifying rounds on the Eden and Strathtyrum Courses saw some incredible golf with the entire week enjoying great links’ weather and many new friendships forged on the golf course.
