Booking the Old Course

The Old Course at St Andrews Links is where the game was first played 600 years ago, but it's easier to obtain a tee time than many might think. There are a number of ways to do so if you have a suitable handicap (maximum of 36 for men and women) and this page explains each of them in detail.

COVID -19 Notice

A number of the below routes to obtain an Old Course tee time have been subject to change. For further information, click here to view our 2020 COVID-19 guidelines. For additional booking enquiries you can contact our Reservations Department by email or by phone: +44 (0)1334 466718. Office hours are Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00 (from 09:30 on Thursdays).

2021 Old Course Tee Times

As a consequence of the ongoing pandemic, a large number of tee times from 2020 have been rescheduled for next year. In light of this, we are currently considering options for 2021 Old Course tee time applications. Further information will be made available here in the near future.

Advance Reservations

2020

We are now fully booked on the Old Course from March to November 2020 inclusive. However, there are other routes available to try and obtain an Old Course tee time. These are listed in the sections below.

For play in December 2020, bookings can be made subject to availability direct with the Reservations Department by email or by phone: +44 (0)1334 466718. Office hours are Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00 (from 09:30 on Thursdays).

Winter Package

Experience everything the Home of Golf has to offer with our fantastic Winter Package. Including one guaranteed tee time on the Old Course, the package also offers a round of golf on two other St Andrews Links courses. Playing over three consecutive days, in addition to the Old Course golfers can enjoy two rounds on the New or Jubilee Championship courses, the more forgiving Eden and Strathtyrum courses or the award winning Castle Course.

Old Course Ballot

Nearly half of Old Course tee times each year are allocated to the ballot to give people who have been unable to book a chance of playing. It is drawn 48 hours in advance of play and golfers should provide their names, home club and handicaps either online, by phone or at one of the clubhouses before 2pm, two days before the day they wish to play. To enter there must be a minimum of two and a maximum of four players.

Single Golfers

Single golfers with suitable handicaps who wish to play the Old Course without an existing tee time should check in at the Old Pavilion on the day of play and the staff will do their best to join them with a two or three-ball group. There is no obligation on the existing golfers to make up a four-ball but common practice is that single golfers are warmly welcomed. With patience, this can be successful but there are no guarantees. Please check Busy Dates before travel.
