The Local Clubs’ Gold Medal Competitions 2020

August 28 2020

The Old Course will once again host The Royal and Ancient Golf Club’s historic Local Clubs’ Gold Medal Competitions this weekend.

Regarded as the Strokeplay Championships of St Andrews, the Men’s and Women’s competitions will be played on Sunday 30th August 2020.
This will be the 119th staging of the Men’s Gold Medal since it was first played in 1890. Competitors from The St Andrews Golf Club, The New Golf Club, University of St Andrews Golf Club and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews will make up the Field contending for the title of “2020 Men’s Champion of the Links”.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club’s Local Clubs’ Women’s Gold Medal Competition will also take place over the Old Course for the fourth time this year. Golfers from St Regulus Ladies’ Golf Club, The St Rule Club and University of St Andrews Golf Club will compete to be the Winner of the Gold Medal, and the “2020 Women’s Champion of the Links”.

St Andrews Links Trust Director of Golf John Grant said: “We are delighted that the postponed Local Clubs Gold Medal will take place on Sunday 30th August on the Old Course.

“The Old Course is extremely popular with walkers and visitors alike on Sundays and we would ask people to be aware that play will take place on this date. Visitors to the Links on this day should refrain from walking across the course during play and adhere to the public footpaths as well as being aware that golf will be being played around them.

“We would like to thank the residents of St Andrews and visitors to the town in advance for their co-operation and wish all competitors the very best of luck.”
