Awards season in full swing at the Home of Golf

November 09 2018

In the year that saw the Home of Golf host its first ever Senior Open the famous Links celebrated more major success at two prestigious golf and tourism ceremonies.

At the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards, which saw more than 450 guests attend a gala dinner at the Fairmont Hotel, The Castle Course capped its 10th anniversary since opening with the award for best clubhouse.

Sitting atop its clifftop location, the clubhouse enjoys spectacular views over St Andrews Bay and back towards the Auld Grey Toun, proving hugely popular and a fantastic addition to the Links landscape since opening in June 2008.

General Manager Kevin Mackay said: “When The Castle Course was being built the clubhouse was an integral part of the design, making use of the incredible views and providing a very special beginning and end to any round of golf. It’s a huge thrill for the entire team to receive this award and a great end to what has been a fantastic year for the Links.”

Further afield the Old Course received the top accolade at the World Golf Awards in La Manga, Spain, lifting the world’s best title for the fifth successive year.

The hallowed turf, which crowned Miguel Angel Jimenez as its champion when it hosted The Senior Open presented by Rolex for the first time in July, was also named best course in Scotland and Europe.

St Andrews Links Management Accountant Paul Cree received the awards on behalf of the Links and paid tribute to the team effort. He added: “It’s a real honour and privilege to collect these awards on behalf of all of my colleagues at St Andrews Links.”
