Booking the Old Course

The Old Course at St Andrews Links is where the game was first played 600 years ago, but it's easier to obtain a tee time than many might think. There are a number of ways to do so if you have a suitable handicap (maximum of 36 for men and women) and this page explains each of them in detail.

2022 Old Course Tee Times

Due to the large number of reservations scheduled from 2020 and 2021 into this year, and with reduced capacity from hosting The 150th Open in 2022, there will not be an opportunity to apply for Old Course tee times in the 2022 High Season. Old Course tee times will be available through the 48 hour Ballot and our Authorised Providers (see below) may also have packages available.

Winter Package

The Winter Package for November 2022 through to March 2023 will go on sale from early June 2022.  More details will be available here in May.

Old Course Ballot

Nearly half of Old Course tee times each year are allocated to the ballot to give people who have been unable to book a chance of playing. It is drawn 48 hours in advance of play and golfers should provide their names, home club and handicaps either online, by phone or at one of the clubhouses before 2pm, two days before the day they wish to play. To enter there must be a minimum of two and a maximum of four players.

Single Golfers

Single golfers with suitable handicaps who wish to play the Old Course without an existing tee time should check in at the Old Pavilion on the day of play and the staff will do their best to join them with a two or three-ball group. There is no obligation on the existing golfers to make up a four-ball but common practice is that single golfers are warmly welcomed. With patience, this can be successful but there are no guarantees. Please check Busy Dates before travel.
