Booking the Old Course

It is easier to obtain a tee time on the Old Course than many might think. There a number of ways to do so if you have a suitable handicap (24 for men and 36 for women) and this page will explain each of them in detail.

Advanced Reservations 2017

Due to the large number of applications received between 24 August and 7 September 2016, the Old Course is now full from March to October 2017.  From Tuesday 18 October, bookings can be taken by telephone or email for the Old Course in January, February, November and December, and for all other courses from January to December 2017.

To apply for a tee time please contact the Reservations Department by phone on +44 (0)1334 466718 or email from Tuesday 18 October 2016.  Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 am – 5.00 pm (9.30 am – 5.00 pm on Thursdays).

If you applied for the Old Course in 2017 and were unsuccessful, should any cancellations occur we will contact those golfers who originally applied for the specific dates in question by the end of December 2016. Therefore we will not offer a second application process in January.

Please see below on this page for a number of other ways to play at the Home of Golf in 2017.

Advanced Reservations 2016

You may still apply for tee times on the Old Course in December 2016 as well as play on our other courses for the rest of this year by contacting our Reservations Department by email or by telephone on +44 (0)1334 466666 for information and assistance.

Old Course Ballot

Nearly half of the total number of tee times on the Old Course each year are allocated to the Ballot to give people who have been unable to book a chance of playing. It is drawn 48 hours in advance and golfers should provide their names, home club and handicap details either by phone or at one of the clubhouses before 2pm, 48 hours before the day they wish to play. To enter there must be a minimum of two and a maximum of four players per card.

Winter Package

Experience everything the Home of Golf has to offer with our fantastic Winter Package. Including one guaranteed tee time on the Old Course, the package also offers a round of golf on two other St Andrews Links courses and is available for customers who book accommodation in the area. Playing over three consecutive days, in addition to the Old Course golfers enjoy two rounds on the New or Jubilee Championship courses, the more forgiving Eden and Strathtyrum courses or the award winning Castle Course.

Old Course Experience

Through an exclusive contract with St Andrews Links, the Old Course Experience offers a range of programmes at the Home of Golf, all of which can be extended to take in Scotland's other famous courses and resorts. Visit their website by clicking on the link below for more information.

Feeling lucky

Single Golfers

Single golfers with suitable handicaps who wish to play the Old Course without an existing tee time should check in at the Old Pavilion on the day of play and the staff will do their best to join them with a two or three-ball group. There is no obligation on the existing golfers to make up a four-ball but common practice is that single golfers are warmly welcomed. With patience, this can be successful but there are no guarantees.
