Booking the Old Course

It is easier to obtain a tee time on the Old Course than many might think. There a number of ways to do so if you have a suitable handicap (24 for men and 36 for women) and this page will explain each of them in detail.

Advanced Reservations 2017

Due to the large number of applications received between 24 August and 7 September 2016, the Old Course is now full from March to October 2017. Bookings can be taken by telephone or email for the Old Course in November and December, and for all other courses from January to December 2017.

To apply for a tee time please contact the Reservations Department by phone on +44 (0)1334 466718 or email. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 am – 5.00 pm (9.30 am – 5.00 pm on Thursdays).

Please see below on this page for a number of other ways to play at the Home of Golf in 2017.

Advanced Reservations 2018

Information on how to apply for tee times in 2018 will be available on this page from July 2017.

Old Course Ballot

Nearly half of Old Course tee times each year are allocated to the Ballot to give people who have been unable to book a chance of playing. It is drawn 48 hours in advance of play and golfers should provide their names, home club and handicaps either online, by phone or at one of the clubhouses before 2pm, two days before the day they wish to play. To enter there must be a minimum of two and a maximum of four players.

Feeling lucky

Single Golfers

Single golfers with suitable handicaps who wish to play the Old Course without an existing tee time should check in at the Old Pavilion on the day of play and the staff will do their best to join them with a two or three-ball group. There is no obligation on the existing golfers to make up a four-ball but common practice is that single golfers are warmly welcomed. With patience, this can be successful but there are no guarantees. Please check Busy Dates before travel.

Winter Package

Experience everything the Home of Golf has to offer with our fantastic Winter Package. Including one guaranteed tee time on the Old Course, the package also offers a round of golf on two other St Andrews Links courses and is available for customers who book accommodation in the area. Playing over three consecutive days, in addition to the Old Course golfers enjoy two rounds on the New or Jubilee Championship courses, the more forgiving Eden and Strathtyrum courses or the award winning Castle Course.

Authorised Providers of Old Course Tee Times

For 2017, The Experience St Andrews is the official provider of golf programmes at the Home of Golf including guaranteed Old Course tee times.

For 2018, there will be a number of Authorised Providers (Golf Tour Operators and Local Accommodation Providers) offering packages, including guaranteed Old Course tee times, throughout high season (15 April – 14 October, 2018).
Authorised Providers can be recognised by the official 'Authorised Provider' logo displayed on their websites and social media platforms.

Telephone calls may be recorded for permitted business purposes.
