Booking the Old Course

It is easier to obtain a tee time on the Old Course than many might think. There a number of ways to do so if you have a suitable handicap (24 for men and 36 for women) and this page will explain each of them in detail.

Advanced Reservations 2017

For play in 2017 we are accepting applications via an online form from 10:00 am BST on Wednesday 24 August until midnight on Wednesday 7 September 2016.  Once all applications have been received a ballot (lottery) will be drawn to determine the order of allocation. Due to the high demand for Old Course times, it is unfortunately not possible to offer all applicants a tee time.

We ask all applicants to apply using the online form, available here

More information on how to apply is available in our 2017 Booking Guidelines. 2017 Green Fees will be available from August. View the 2017 Busy Dates here.

Advanced Reservations 2016

The Old Course is full up to and including October 2016. Bookings can be taken by phone or email for the Old Course in November and December, and for all other courses in 2016.

To make a booking please contact the Reservations Department by phone on +44 (0)1334 466718 or email. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 am – 5.00 pm (9.30 am – 5.00 pm on Thursdays).

A number of tee times are also allocated to local Hotels and Guest Houses in St Andrews. More information here.

Old Course Ballot

Nearly half of the total number of tee times on the Old Course each year are allocated to the Ballot to give people who have been unable to book a chance of playing. It is drawn 48 hours in advance and golfers should provide their names, home club and handicap details either by phone or at one of the clubhouses before 2pm, 48 hours before the day they wish to play. To enter there must be a minimum of two and a maximum of four players per card.

Winter Package

Experience everything the Home of Golf has to offer with our fantastic Winter Package. Including one guaranteed tee time on the Old Course, the package also offers a round of golf on two other St Andrews Links courses and is available for customers who book accommodation in the area. Playing over three consecutive days, in addition to the Old Course golfers enjoy two rounds on the New or Jubilee Championship courses, the more forgiving Eden and Strathtyrum courses or the award winning Castle Course.

Old Course Experience

Through an exclusive contract with St Andrews Links, the Old Course Experience offers a range of programmes at the Home of Golf, all of which can be extended to take in Scotland's other famous courses and resorts. Visit their website by clicking on the link below for more information.

Feeling lucky

Single Golfers

Single golfers with suitable handicaps who wish to play the Old Course without an existing tee time should check in at the Old Pavilion on the day of play and the staff will do their best to join them with a two or three-ball group. There is no obligation on the existing golfers to make up a four-ball but common practice is that single golfers are warmly welcomed. With patience, this can be successful but there are no guarantees.
