Booking the Old Course

It is easier to obtain a tee time on the Old Course than many might think. There a number of ways to do so if you have a suitable handicap (24 for men and 36 for women) and this page will explain each of them in detail.

Advanced Reservations 2017

Applications for the initial ballot for Advanced Reservations for play in 2017 have now closed. This ballot will determine the order in which the applications received (between 10:00 BST on Wednesday 24 August until midnight on Wednesday 7 September 2016) will be allocated. Golfers will be notified by email by the end of October to advise if their application has been successful or not.

We fully expect the Old Course in high and shoulder seasons (1 April 2017 to 31 October 2017) to be full so will no longer accept applications for the Old Course during this period.

The online application form will once again be available from Monday 3 October (this date is subject to possible change) when you can apply for the Old Course in low season and for our other courses throughout 2017. If any Old Course times are still available during the high and shoulders seasons, this will be made clear on the online calendar from 3 October 2016 (this date may change).

Any enquiries in the meantime may be directed to or by phone + 44 (0)1334 466718 during office hours Monday to Friday. Please note that telephone bookings for 2017 can be accepted from Tuesday 1 November after the advanced application procedure has been completed.

Advanced Reservations 2016

You may still apply for tee times on the Old Course in December 2016 as well as play on our other courses for the rest of this year by contacting our Reservations Department by email or by telephone on +44 (0)1334 466666 for information and assistance.

Old Course Ballot

Nearly half of the total number of tee times on the Old Course each year are allocated to the Ballot to give people who have been unable to book a chance of playing. It is drawn 48 hours in advance and golfers should provide their names, home club and handicap details either by phone or at one of the clubhouses before 2pm, 48 hours before the day they wish to play. To enter there must be a minimum of two and a maximum of four players per card.

Winter Package

Experience everything the Home of Golf has to offer with our fantastic Winter Package. Including one guaranteed tee time on the Old Course, the package also offers a round of golf on two other St Andrews Links courses and is available for customers who book accommodation in the area. Playing over three consecutive days, in addition to the Old Course golfers enjoy two rounds on the New or Jubilee Championship courses, the more forgiving Eden and Strathtyrum courses or the award winning Castle Course.

Old Course Experience

Through an exclusive contract with St Andrews Links, the Old Course Experience offers a range of programmes at the Home of Golf, all of which can be extended to take in Scotland's other famous courses and resorts. Visit their website by clicking on the link below for more information.

Feeling lucky

Single Golfers

Single golfers with suitable handicaps who wish to play the Old Course without an existing tee time should check in at the Old Pavilion on the day of play and the staff will do their best to join them with a two or three-ball group. There is no obligation on the existing golfers to make up a four-ball but common practice is that single golfers are warmly welcomed. With patience, this can be successful but there are no guarantees.

Telephone calls may be recorded for permitted business purposes.
