Booking the Old Course

The Old Course at St Andrews Links is where the game was first played 600 years ago, but it's easier to obtain a tee time than many might think. There are a number of ways to do so if you have a suitable handicap (maximum of 36 for men and women) and this page explains each of them in detail.

COVID -19 Notice

A number of the below routes to obtain an Old Course tee time have been subject to change. For further information, click here to view our 2021 COVID-19 guidelines. For additional booking enquiries you can contact our Reservations Department by email. Office hours are Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00 (from 09:30 on Thursdays).

2021 Old Course Tee Times

Old Course tee times are available through the 48 hour Ballot.

2022 Old Course Tee Times

Due to the large number of reservations scheduled from 2020 and 2021 into next year, and with reduced capacity from hosting The 150th Open in 2022, there will not be an opportunity to apply for Old Course tee times in the 2022 High Season. Old Course tee times will be available through the 48 hour Ballot and our Authorised Providers (see below) may also have packages available.

Winter Package

Experience everything the Home of Golf has to offer with our fantastic Winter Package. Including one guaranteed tee time on the Old Course, the package also offers a round of golf on two other St Andrews Links courses. Playing over three consecutive days, in addition to the Old Course golfers can enjoy two rounds on the New or Jubilee Championship courses, the more forgiving Eden and Strathtyrum courses or the award winning Castle Course.

Old Course Ballot

Nearly half of Old Course tee times each year are allocated to the ballot to give people who have been unable to book a chance of playing. It is drawn 48 hours in advance of play and golfers should provide their names, home club and handicaps either online, by phone or at one of the clubhouses before 2pm, two days before the day they wish to play. To enter there must be a minimum of two and a maximum of four players.

Single Golfers

Under current Covid guidelines, the singles queue is not permitted. However, single golfers are able to book tee times on all courses with the exception of the Old Course where a minimum of 2 golfers per ballot entry is still required.

Authorised Providers of Old Course Tee Times

There are a number of Authorised Providers (Golf Tour Operators and Local Accommodation Providers) offering packages, including guaranteed Old Course tee times, throughout high season (April – October).
Authorised Providers can be recognised by the official 'Authorised Provider' logo displayed on their websites and social media platforms.

Telephone calls may be recorded for permitted business purposes.
