Webcams of St Andrews and other areas
St Andrews.com has pioneered the use of dynamic webcams, and our webcam overlooking the Old Course, is one of the most popular of its kind in the world. One of our regular visitors emailed us with the following note of interest.
St Andrews Webcam - submitted by Pete Nimmo - Nr. St Andrews, Fife, Scotland.
St Andrews surf is my favourite topic if any arrives I've been known to abandon my kids in years gone by.
East Sands is most popular with the surf boarders - but I surf a short kayak with fins, they're in the minority but lots of fun and it keeps you a bit warmer. The St Andrews waves are not that frequent but this winter with all the Northerly's has been good, interestingly the northerly trend has continued into the summer and there have been waves of 3-4ft say 2 days a week for the last month. Numbers of folk in the water is difficult to gauge - may be 15 on a busy day at East Sands.
Magic Seaweed is the site where every one gets the forecast and it's become increasingly accurate over the last year ... last week they predicted 10ft swell from the north east which produced 6ft at St Andrews!
I am tagging on a photo of me on a big wave last Oct taken from the East Sands Harbour Wall.
Hope this is of some help and thanks for providing the camera.
All the best Pete
